I am wearing a skirt!
An invitation from Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governor J.J.Grant recently arrived in my mailbox to attend a celebration at Government House in Halifax in honour of Scottish Heritage day. Of course being a Scottish feudal Baron myself I could not refuse this opportunity. This day is celebrated yearly on April 6th . The Burden family wears the colours of the clan Lamont (“pronounced lament”) being a sept of this clan and the tartan looks a bit like the more known Black Watch pattern. However the Clan Lamont wears the green with dark blue instead of black. It was an interesting morning filled with Scottish entertainment complete with dance, music, poetry, a fashion show and of course tea, biscuits and a light lunch.
I do not have many occasions to wear my kilt complete with sgian dhu (the knife we Scotsmen wear with our long socks) but today was one. I thought I looked pretty snazzy. The pictures ended up on Facebook and among the many comments were a few from Dutch acquaintances (my girlfriend is Dutch) : ” My God Stella, he is wearing a skirt!!!” But they still don’t know what a true Scotsman wears underneath !
